Master Bedroom Reveal

I finished up our master bedroom spruce-up this weekend and I am so excited to share the results! I am so happy with the way it turned out.

Here is a "before" shot so you can see where we were. I know some of you will say, "But it was nice before!" And no doubt, it was.

But over the last few years my tastes have evolved and changed they way they naturally do. Decorating and design is a constant ebb and flow. What you liked 5 years ago (when I bought the old bedding - a "just married" gift to myself) isn't always what you like now. And then, when we built this house in 2010, I had no idea what my design tastes were and had no direction as to how I wanted to style my home. I just sort of did what everyone else was doing.

Now, I have finally come into my own as far as my decorating style and what I like/don't like. And my matchy-matchy bed/bedding/drapes just wasn't doing it for me anymore. It was feeling too formal, too boring. It was a snooze-fest. When we inherited The Rug, I saw it as a sign for this bedroom to finally get the attention it has needed. Now the bedroom jives with the rest of my house.

I'll give a run down on some of the details this week. Oh! I've linked up this post to The Pink Pagoda's blue and white linking bash! Go check it out, I'm sure there are going to be some fantastic posts! Happy Monday everyone!

Fall Uniform

I saw this photo on Pinterest and immediately thought, "This is my fall uniform.". Thank goodness black is all the rage right now because that's all I own.

I can't see her shoes, but I imagine they look something like this...

Design Board: Neutral vs. Bold

I haven't shared a design board in a while...

I did this for friends who have recently moved into a new home.

As you can see, my love for all things leopard and blue and white is still going strong.

And then I looked at it longer and I thought, you know what this needs...a green sofa.

Bam.

Custom Look Drapery DIY

I've got a great DIY for y'all today. It's a super easy way to get a custom look on your drapes without spending custom dollas. I've used this trick a few times before and I am finally getting around to doing it in my own house (cobblers children people, cobblers children). Now, I love custom drapery as much as the next person, but I just don't want to pay that kind of money for window coverings. I'd rather spend it on wine or pillows. Or shoes! Anywho, back to the task at hand.

I've had these drapes in my master bedroom for years (!!!!) with the ol' ring and clip action. I didn't use the hidden tabs on the back because I need these to open and close easily. So this is what I have been living with. Ugh. Terrible.

Enter pin-on drapery hooks. The best part...they are $1. I got these at JoAnn Fabric.

First thing, take pliers and remove all those clamps from your rings until you have a nice little pile. I left the rings on the rods to make it easier and also because I'm lazy. (Sneak peak of new linen bedding!)

I like using back tab curtains because the tabs are evenly spaced and make a nice little place to center your hook. I just kind of eyeball it and slide the hook in near the center of the tab. You could easily use pole top curtains but you may need to measure to get the hooks spaced correctly. You want to leave a bit of curtain above the pin so that it is hidden from view when you re-hang it.

And then once all the hooks are in, hang them on your rings!

Ta-da!

So much better right? I love when things are easy and cheap. Now, off to buy more wine.

P.S. I was just looking at these pics and I thought, what if you pin the curtains to where you don't see any of the rings or the bar?! I am going to try that out.

Verdict: I like seeing the bar.

J. Crew + My Wallet = Danger

I snagged this a week ago from J Crew and it just came in the mail the other day. And guys, it's the best sweater....ever. The swing style of it is so comfy and perfect for layering. It looks and feels so much more luxe than its $88 price tag (I'm looking at you Vince...with a glaring side-eye) Grab it before it's gone!

And I just got an email for 25% shoes and bags! I have been obsessed with these since they came out.
