Color + Mirror

An email popped into my inbox the other day with the subject "Art Deco Mirrors". Naturally, I had to open it. It was from a gentleman by the name of Zach Sturley, who with his merry band of mirror makers, have just launched a collection of beautiful colored glass mirrors.

I may be more than obsessed with the Octagon and the Green Art Deco. Everything is built by hand in Detroit by these talented folks. I love finding items made in the USA by real craftsmen...it just doesn't happen much anymore.  Oh, and they also do custom work that is bananas.

Budding Artist?

So I know this isn't a kids blog or a craft blog, but I figured this is worth sharing. When you are a parent of a child who attends any sort of school program, whether it's a daycare, mother's day out, kindergarten, etc., you will be inundated with artwork. Child artwork. Which is safe to say....not the best artwork. If I can be honest, most of it is crap. But ohhhh the mommy guilt. "My child made this! With her hands! For me! I MUST display this weird conglomeration of colors with construction paper squares glued on it!! It's a turkey made from her HAND!"

The first year she was in school I saved it all. And then I decided that the crap was overshadowing the non-crap. There are a few gems to be had in children's art. So I purged. If it made me smile or giggle, I saved it. If it was a smear of brown with a few crayon marks, I tossed it. And here we are today.

I grabbed a few things from the "saved" box and decided to display a few favorite pieces.

I started cutting things out and arranging them on a sheet of card stock.

And grabbed an empty frame I had laying around and voila!

Cute right? The weird one-eyed sheep has always made me laugh. She will be so excited to see it when she gets home from school today...most likely carrying another folder of "art".

Happy Friday friends!

Our Outdoor Oasis

Apologies for the silence around the blog for the past few weeks. Things have been a little cray-cray. I have been out of town the last 3 weekends and on top of that we have a few projects going on around the house. Which means I have had only weekdays to try and get things accomplished...which means I don't blog. Sorry friends.

BUT! We checked off a major item on our list, which was the back deck and screened porch. I don't have "before" photos, because, well, I never remember to take them. I get too excited to start doing things. Just try and picture an empty screened porch and a boring deck. But here are the lovely "after" photos. We have already used it a ton!

I will list as many sources as I can after the photos!

Weeeeee! I love it!

Sources:
Dining table and metal chairs - World Market. I am not a fan of matched sets (booooring). So everything was pulled from different collections.

Wicker host chairs - Homegoods

String lights - Target

Patio set - Home Depot. It's from last year so they don't have this one anymore. It's the Martha Stewart line and honestly it looks and feels way more expensive than it was. The metal was bronze so naturally I painted it black.

Pillows - Target

Ottoman - Repurposed from inside and covered in outdoor cabana stripe fabric.

Rug - Target

Mirror - Home Depot
